"Sarah!"
I looked up startled. "Jessie!? What are you doing here?"
Jessie looked at me laughing, "Uh, I'm here for class" duh, Sarah. A friend in my class, that was a happy start to my morning. To make it better it turned out my professor is a recently on furlough missionary from Tanzania (Africa). Then before we start the class our professor has everyone in the class get down on their knees and we all prayed for the class, for eachother, for our prof, for everything we would come to learn in that class. It was amazing, after 2 years of a very secular community college it was so refreshing and inspiring to be in a Christ focused classroom. Not only that, but after the "conduct intro" the prof gave us a small lesson about what study the Bible is all about. (Biblical Hermenuetics is studying "how to study the Bible" for those of you who didn't know) The lesson was so convicting and inspiring at the same time.
Here is some of what my notes read:
Psalm 119:9,11
How can a young person stay on the path of purity?
By living according to your word.
I have hidden your word in my heart
that I might not sin against you.
Character - purpose, goal, objective
What kind of person are you? In every aspect of your life?
Psalm 119:13,63
With my lips I recount all the laws that come from your mouth
I am a friend to all who fear you, to all who follow your precepts.
Community - who watches your blind spots? Who keeps you in check, pushes you on?
Who do you hold on to?
"Everyway of seeing is a way of not seeing"
Context - the world
Psalm 119:19,46,54
I am a stranger on earth; do not hide your commands from me.
I will speak of your statutes before kings and will not be put to shame,
Your decrees have been the theme of my songs wherever I have lived
"The world we know is NOT our home"
"We are wanderers"
"Study the Bible for something bigger then yourself! Lost people are why we are here!"
All I can say is "whoa". This is only day one!!
I have a feeling this is going to be the start of something very amazing :)
